The University of Stuttgart is one of the leading technically oriented universities in Germany with global significance. It sees itself as a center of university-based, non-university, and industrial research. Furthermore, it takes a role as a guarantor of research-based teaching, focused on quality and holism. The university promotes the transfer of knowledge and technologies to society in all their profile- and competence areas as well as their emerging fields. The „Stuttgarter Weg” (Stuttgart Way) means an interdisciplinary integration of engineering, natural sciences, humanities, management, economics and social sciences based on the fundamentals of cutting-edge research at a disciplinary level. Our vision is “Intelligent systems for a sustainable society”.
Simulation Science is a key research area at the University in Stuttgart institutionally anchored in the Stuttgart Center for Simulation Science (SC SimTech) founded in 2015 as a faculty-like center and in the Cluster of Excellence Data-Integrated Simulation Science. The SC SimTech is authorized to conduct its own PhD program and houses its own study program. The long-term research objective of the Cluster of Excellence is to systematically integrate information derived from various types of data into the modeling-simulation-analysis cycle. It aims to develop a new class of jointly simulation- and data-driven approaches that will boost the applicability and accuracy of simulations and fundamentally transform the way in which science and engineering are done.
